Easter Season of 2014

Although I did not get a post done on Holy Saturday, the transformation of our chapel began on that day. The starkness of Good Friday is now in the past and color and new life are all around us -- inside the chapel, in the Armory (student union), outside -- green grass -- and new life especially in the courtyards, including lots of singing birds!!! And Easter would not be complete without the Easter Rabbit. He even brought Easter eggs to Nate LaFave.

Good Friday -- 2014

Although the weather looks as if today promises to be a very beautiful day, there is a distinct starkness about the reality of this day. Our chapel definitely speaks of starkness.

Can you imagine the anguish of the mother of Jesus on this day?

Holy Thursday 2014

It is Holy Thursday morning of 2014. The environment is pretty much all set in our chapel for this evening's celebration. This is the night of the first Eucharist. This is the night of the washing of the feet. This night has always had a special place in my heart.

Below are some photos of our chapel as it has been prepared for Holy Thursday's celebration. Please notice the print of the Last Supper in one of the niches in the chapel. There are 11 apostles there at the table -- not 12. Obviously, Judas is already gone.

Since the gospels at the Eucharist the last few days have centered on Judas and his handing over of Jesus with a kiss, Judas has been on my mind alot these days.

Holy Week -- Wonderful Memories of Seminary Days

Holy Week was always a very special time here at Mount Michael, but especially during seminary days when it was St. John's Seminary. I will always cherish those memories.

For the last few years we have brought back some practices that we did in seminary days -- like the Seder Meal. Although we did not have the Seder meal as such this year, we did have what we call the Service Meal. We had lunch in the gym -- family style. The adult at each table served the main dish to all the students at the table. This was done in fashion (of sorts) as we do in the abbey-- the abbot waits tables that night and then he washes feet at the Holy Eucharist later.

Below are some photos of our Service Meal of 2014
